Exploring Tomorrow’s Opportunities
The workforce of tomorrow won’t necessarily look like the workforce of today. Industries are changing, technology is shifting how we work, and expectations around careers, leadership and workplaces continue to evolve. Exploring tomorrow’s opportunities means being prepared to look beyond the way things have always been done and consider what might work better.
Leadership & Workforce
What worked ten or twenty years ago may not be the answer for the next ten. Finding the right people is only part of the challenge. We also need to think differently about how we attract them, develop skills, retain experience, transfer knowledge and create workplaces people actually want to be part of.
That may mean looking outside traditional industries for transferable skills, reconsidering what qualifications are really necessary, creating different pathways into employment, embracing technology, or changing how we lead and manage teams. It also means recognising that workforce challenges cannot always be solved by simply recruiting more people.
Connected Futures: Leadership & Workforce is about exploring those alternatives - sharing ideas, challenging traditional thinking and looking at practical ways we can build the capability, leadership and workforce WA industry will need next.
Different Pathways. New Possibilities.
There isn’t one answer to today’s workforce challenges. Sometimes the opportunity is not about finding more people through the same channels, but looking at different pathways altogether.
Veterans in the Workforce
A career in the Australian Defence Force develops skills, experience and capabilities that can transfer across a surprisingly broad range of industries. RSLWA Workforce Connect helps connect veterans with employers and assists businesses to recognise the value of that experience.
Skilled Migration
When the skills aren’t available locally, it may be time to look further afield. Workforce Abundance helps businesses explore skilled migration and international recruitment as another avenue for building workforce capability.
Will AI Replace Us - or Change How We Work?
AI and technology are already changing the workplace. Some tasks that once needed people can now be automated, completed faster or handled almost entirely by technology. And yes, that will mean some jobs change, some disappear and completely new ones emerge.
But perhaps replacement isn’t the whole story.
AI can take care of repetitive administration, analyse huge amounts of information, improve safety, reduce human error and free people to focus on work that requires judgement, experience, relationships and problem-solving. For industries already facing workforce and skills shortages, that could be an opportunity.
There are trade-offs. If technology takes over too much, we risk losing skills and experience along the way. Entry-level roles may change or disappear. Businesses also need to think about cybersecurity, privacy, accuracy, accountability and what happens when AI gets it wrong.
So rather than simply asking whether AI will replace us, perhaps we should be asking how it will change the way we work — and how we prepare people for that change.
The challenge isn’t choosing between people and technology. It’s understanding where technology can do the job better, where people remain essential, and how the two can work together.
The workforce of the future may not need fewer people. It may need people doing very different things.
